Building trust in payments: CBI's role in the evolution of Verification of Payee

Verification of Payee goes beyond a simple compliance obligation: it represents a fundamental pillar for building safer, more reliable payments across Europe.

Since the launch of the European Payments Council (EPC) VoP Scheme, CBI has actively participated in industry dialogue, contributing to the development of the framework and supporting the definition of shared standards within the European payments ecosystem.

As the scheme continues to progress - with further enhancements currently under consultation for VoP 2.0 - CBI reaffirms its commitment to advancing standards that enhance fraud prevention, foster interoperability and strengthen overall payment security.

As Italy’s largest RVM, CBI has already carried out a task force with its participants to support and streamline the implementation of the VoP Rulebook 2.0 within the EPC framework. At the same time, the release for the adaptation to VoP 1.1, scheduled by EPC for September 2026, will be fully transparent for CBI Name Check participants, ensuring no impact on PSPs.
