The Digital Signature is the result of an IT procedure that guarantees the authenticity and the integrity of messages and documents exchanged and stored using IT tools, in the same way as the traditional signature.
The Digital Signature generation takes place through using the public key cryptography; this technology makes use of two asymmetrical digital keys, of which one is private, used for signing, and the other is public, used for verifying the very same signature.
The link between the public key and the identity of a subject is guaranteed by a Certification Authorities, a trusted third party, either public or private, enabled to issue a digital certificate through a procedure following international standards, according to the European or national legal framework.
